Printing to a CUPS printer via HTTP / IPP
I have a CUPS printer set up for basic authentication and I am able to install the printer on a Windows 7 client. I have used the following methods to set the printer up: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /b "My Printer" /x /n "part of the n switch" /if /f %windir%\inf\ntprint.inf /r "https://printer.domain.com/printers/MyPrinter" /m "MS Publisher Imagesetter" I have also gone through the add printer wizard. If you need the specific steps let me know. The printer sets up just fine. I also set the port properties to use basic authentication in either scenario. When I try to print a test page the client starts querying the print server anonymously on every query. The print server sends back a 401 and the client responds with authentication each time. Once the client has done it's initial job setup it tries to send the print job anonymously which of course is rejected with a 401. The client never re-sends the job with authentication. Also, during initial setup of the printer port, the client tries to enumerate the printer properties anonymously. This is fine except that if it is successful it will never try using basic authentication again. If anonymous users can see the printer but have to authenticate in order to print the client wil not log in. When asked for authentication on printing it will only try sending the Windows user name. It completely ignores the user name and password provided in the basic authentication dialog. These printers work fine in Vista.

You may change the default NTLM authentication level on Windows 7 and check the result. Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Please open the policy mentioned in the above article, and change the setting to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated. If the issue persists, please let us know the model of the printer, also let us know where is the printer driver from.Arthur Xie - MSFT

After diving in WAY too deep I was able to fix the issue by updating CUPS. I am not sure exactly what the issue was, but it works now. Thanks for the help.

I have also gone through the add printer wizard. If you need the specific steps let me know. The printer sets up just fine. I also set the port properties to use basic authentication in either scenario. Please explain! I have a HP ColorJet connected to a computer running Linux Mint 9. It's set up through CUPS, but I cannot access it though my Windows 7 computers. Please help! Thank you in advance
