Printers will not install through group policy, can install via print server share
1. Could we compare the funtionality of first print server with the second one? (The same printer type and driver and GPO) 2. Your problem is more on the side of GPO (More detailes about GPO settings will be helpful.) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/threads 3. It does not hurt to place question in Kyocera support/community. 4. If you found the path to working configuration, why not to use it? 5. It seems that the path to solution is via EventID 601, Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin and ProcessID 1248 Regards Milos

I've found a solution, although this might not be the most ideal one. I used the same GPO's as my working GPO, with a change of a different printer path. The problem seems to have to do with the print server being a domain controller. Security must be tighter on the DC by default. I knew that the issue with event ID 601 was because the client could not access the driver on the DC. I eventually added "everyone" to the drivers folder on the DC (c:\windows\system32\spool) with read and execute access only. I did not share the folder, I only add the read permissions for "everyone". This solves the issue. What is odd to me is that my print server (server2008R2) which isn't a DC does not have this access to the drivers folder, but on the DC it seems I had to allow this. Very odd imo. Thanks, Milos, for the information.Kevin

I already have a print server working with server 2008 R2. I just built a second print server with 2008R2 as another DC. I cannot get clients to install the print server as they should. I have configured the point and print restrictions and I cannot figure out why this won't work. When the computers are restarted, the policy tries to install the driver, but I get an error "the print spooler failed to download and import the driver from "\\servername" into the driver store for driver "drivername". Error Code 80070005. This error seems to be access denied, but I cannot figure out how access is being denied, and do what. I have set up a print server before, so I don't know why this is happening. Here is the friendly view text from the event log on the client (win7 x64): - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-PrintService [ Guid] {747EF6FD-E535-4D16-B510-42C90F6873A1} EventID 601 Version 0 Level 2 Task 41 Opcode 12 Keywords 0x8000000000008800 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2012-07-25T22:25:35.561471000Z EventRecordID 25 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 1248 [ ThreadID] 2360 Channel Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin Computer computer.FQDN.domain.domain - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-18 - UserData - CSRImportFailed DriverSource \\printservername Driver Kyocera FS-1370DN KX Error 80070005 If someone could help, that would be great. note: I CAN install this print driver from the server using the server share (\\server\printer) with no extra prompts or popups. It's only through group policy that it won't work. Installing the driver from the server first allows the GPO to work, but I want this to install the driver, which it isn't doing for some reason. Thanks
