Printers lost after sleep mode
Hello everyone, We have a windows 2k8 server pushing printer GPOs to workstations and there is a problem where when the workstations goes to sleep and comes out of sleep mode, the printer disappears or defaults to a xps document creator/pdf creator. Some times if I do a gpupdate /force it will find it again but most of the time restarting the machine works. Event Viewer lists the following. event IDs: 1129 source: group policy. event IDs: 1058 source: group policy. event IDs: 5719 source: NETLOGON. Solutions we have tried: updating the driver turning on and off the power save on the nic device when it is detected. turning off the sleep mode on the the hard drive and then eventually the whole machine. (just tried this and going to see if it works but if it does work we would like to find another fix that allows us to put the computers in enter sleep mode.) We also tried enabling the gpo "always wait for network on computer startup and logon" (we just tried this and not sure if this would work.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hi, Thanks for the post! I recommend you check the Group Policy settings of your workstation to find if there's any conflict. Check both the group policy when the printer works and doesn't work after wake up from sleep. Run cmd as administrator, input gpresult /h gpreport.html, you can upload it to your SkyDrive. Hello Miya, Thanks for your prompt reply and help on the matter. I uploaded the file but need to know your email. I checked a computer that had the problem and when I checked the GPEDIT on the machine it did not show any printers there. I did the gpresult and it does show the group policy being pushed to it.

Hi, You can upload the file to your SkyDrive. Make it in a public folder, and provide us with a link here. How about you using the command gpupdate /force? Try to force update the group policy to check if it works. Hello Miya, Yes we constantly have to do gpupdate /force to no avail. usually restarting the computers will sync the computer to the printer. however we would like to not have to do anything and have the computers always be connected to the printer and not lose the gpo. we would like a more permanent solution. http://cid-c9e6014758217a7d.office.live.com/self.aspx/Printer%20GPO%20problems/gpreport.html Thanks again for all your help.

Hi, I checked the group policy and find nothing specific. The error message you got all showed that the computer lost the connectivility with the DC. Pleaser refer to these: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/event-id-1129-microsoft-windows-grouppolicy.aspx http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/event-id-1058-group-policy-preprocessing-networking.aspx The event IDs: 5719 source: NETLOGON you got, means no domain controller is available for domain. What's the detailed information when you got the error 5719? Try to ping the DC using both FQDN and ip address when you encounter the issue, check the result. In addition, please also ask this question in Windows Server forum, you may find other communites who have the similar issue.
