Printers Failing and/or Cannot Connect Operation Failed 0x0000007e Error
I have a domain using Win7 Enterprise mostly x32 with some x64. All of a sudden we are starting to experiance failures running around and when we try to add the printers back we get the above error. The printers are on a Server 2008 domain controller and the majority of the printers are now using the latest HP Universal print driver. The printers are added via GPO as direct IP printers. The workstations were upgraded using a WET upgrade which brought all the users settings and files and I think that could be playing into the problem. We have looked into removing printers and readding them but that doesn't seem to help. In addition, we have tried to identify if all the printers are using the correct drivers or if the migration process + patches & updates + who knows what is creating these problems. So if anyone can give a clue, a hint, any suggestion, I would really appriciate it.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. You can try to add the printers as local ones to check if it works. Follow these steps: 1. Click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Hardware and Sound”. 2. Click “Add a printer”. 3. Choose “Add a local printer” and click on “Create a new port”. 4. Select “Local Port” and click “Next”. 5. Type in "[\\computer name\printer name]" (without quotation marks) for the Port Name and click “OK”. Example: If the computer you wish to connect to is named Computer A and the printer is called Printer A then the path would be \\ComputerA\PrinterA Best Regards, Miya Yao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. I also had the 0x0000007e error. Using the local print port did not help. I solved it by changing the current system locale. You may also try to install hotfix 982728. I found the following website very helpful: Operation failed with error 0x0000007e when adding a printerwww.itexperience.net
