Printer sharing from XP to Vista
As background, I have a small LAN set up with 2 desktops and one laptop. One of the desktops which runs under Windows XP Prof. is used as a server for several peripherals. The other desktop runs under 64 bit Vista Home Premium and the laptop uses standard Vista Home Premium. The problem is with one of the printers attached to the XP computer, an Epson R300. For some unknown reason both the 64 bit Vista and standard Vista computers refuse to connect to the Epson. The only additional information from the connect attempt by the 64 bit computer is an error message telling me that the server (XP based) does not have the proper driver for the Epson. If I connect the Epson directly to the 64 bit computer it seems that all the computers can use it. What do I have to do to be able to have the Epson attached to the XP computer and accessible by the others ?????

Hi, I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Click “Start”, “Devices and Printers”. 2. Click “Add a printer”. 3. Choose “Add a local printer” and click on “Create a new port”. 4. Select “Local Port” and click “Next”. 5. Type in "[\\computer name\printer name]" (without quotation marks) for the Port Name and click “OK”. Example: If the computer you wish to connect to is named ComputerA and the printer is called PrinterA then the path would be \\ComputerA\PrinterA 6. Please select a correct driver from the list. If the model is not listed, please click the “Windows Update” button. Wait for the process finishes and try to find the driver again.
