Printer setup for Network Printers Issue
On a new install of Windows 7 RC 64-bit everything went very well. Even the network printers installed very nicely and finctioned (test print ok). The next day all printers would not function. These are Ethernet network printers that still function properly from sll other computers on the home network but Windows 7 can't print to them. When I uninstalled and re-installed the printer this time Windows reported that is can find the network printer but is having issues talking to it. Windows can't share it either (any more) but I don't care about that since this is a network printer.I have see lots of others with network printer setup issues. No real resolution seen other than Windows 7 is in beta (or RC).For a computer that can't print is it really a computer? Is this a way to save a tree? (ha ha).Not happy at all. This is a simply dunction that has functioned properly since Windows 3.11 Why now does printing seem to be a MAJOR concern. Maybe we no longer need to use paper?I simply ask that this get FIXED.

Hi, Most of network printing problems are caused by printer driver. Maybe because it is a test version so many manufacturers do not release drivers specially for it. Some Windows Vista drivers work in Windows 7 systems. I suggest that you try to reinstall the printer. You may follow the steps below on one computer first. Step1: Remove the existed printer driver. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.2. Click on the icon of the printer, click Remove Device.3. click Control Panel and double click Program and Features.4. Remove the program for the printer. Step2: Reinstall. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port. 5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format. \\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer] Then click Next. 6. Choose the correct driver in the driver list. If no available driver, click the button Windows Update, wait for the process finishes and then look for the driver again.7. Finish the installation. If the printers cannot be installed, or it does not work after installing, please let us know the model of the printers.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi,I have a similar problem with a Canon iP4300 which is connected to a newly installed 64bit Win7 Ultimate PC (Version 6.1 Build 7600 & fully patched/updated) on a Dell 9150 with 4Gb of RAM. My wifes PC uses 32bit Vista Ultimate- she can connect & map to the D disk on my Win7 PC, she can see the Canon printer via Network on Windows Exploere but when she tries to use the "Connect" function when right-clicking on the printer icon she gets the following error message:"The serve for the 'Canon Inkjet iP4300' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want search for the proper driver .... etc." If I search for the driver the sys asks for a path ... if directed to where the driver .inf is located (version 2.0 for Vista 32bit), it is rejected "Windows cannotlocate a suitable printer driver".I've tried creating a printer on the Vista machine using a Local Port name & IP address and on the Win7 PC I have also triedadding an x86 driver to the Additional Drivers function under the Sharing tab - this asks the same as on Vista ... i.e. to provide a path to the driver which is then rejected.I've tried all of the above with both firewalls turned off & all password access turned off.Anybody got any other ideas ..... I assume Canon will eventually release a driver that will work in a mixed (as in 32Bit Vista & 64bit Win7 home network)Win7 apart from very minor glitches is excellent ... really like the whole look and feel of it.Thanks to all that reply.====================================19 Aug 09I've done a bit more experimenting by using the Canon drivers ver 2.0 for 32 & 64 bit Vista (1st I used DelDrv.exe in the DrvSetup folder to clear out the driver included in this relase of Win7) - this seems to work in that I can load the 32bit driver as an additional driver and the Vista PC can now connect to the printer attached to the Win7 PC. Still a slight problem printing to it but am working on it.

I have a Checkpoint Z100G router, with an HP 952C DeskJet plugged into the USB print server, that won't print with Windows 7. the Vista 64 Bit & XP machinesin the house all print fine. Settings are identical on all machines.I've removed & readded, followed every instruction here, even attached the printer locally & detected it, then moved it to the Z100G & changed it to an IP port but nada.If I plug it in locally with USB it prints fine, just not over the print server & nothing is being blocked. Firewalls are all off.Any clues?Follow up answer:The above did not work for me. What did work was that I shared the 952C printer from my daughters 64 Bit Vista laptops, & then added the shared printer. It printed successfully. I then set up a new printer using that driver from Vista & as an IP port, deleting the shared printer. It has been rock solid ever since.
