Printer mapping in Internet Explorer
Hello, I'm searching a way to map printers directly in Internet Explorer 8. When I enter the direct sharename of the printer in IE8 "f.e. \\servername\printername" the only thing I get back is: "The website cannot be displayed". When I enter a fileshare name in IE8 "f.e. \\servername\sharename" windows explorer comes up an show me the files. When I enter the direct sharename of the printer in windows explorer it's starting to install/map the printer to my client. Is there any way to configure IE8/Windows that when I enter the printershare in IE it starts to map the printer to my client? FYI: I'm aware of IPP - but since we have about 30 printservers and I don't want to configure each server I'm looking for an other solution... FYI2: All printers are shared in Active Directory Thanks for any input.

Hi, I am afraid there is no way to configure IE8 to map the printer directly for security factor. It is by design. You will find the printer location is always opened in Windows Explorer.
