Printer is offline
Whenever I install a new printer, it is somehow offline. How so I get it online? Confusing in this list is when this is there . "printer is offline" Do I click it? Or, does this mean it is online, and if I click it , it will be offline? suzieinterestedintechsinfo

If it is greyed out and not bold after installing it, then it means its offline, I dont think clicking it will change anything. Will it still print? Is the printer networked through a router or is it plugged directly into a PC via USB/Parallel?

The printer is attached to a Win 7 Desktop via usb. It is setup to share on the network. In some occaisions when printing from a laptop on the network the printer goes offline. The only way I can get the priter back online I must power the printer down and then reboot the desktop that it is attached to. Everything then works for quite a while before it happens again. I still don't know why I have the problem but it doesn't happen often enough to chase thoroughly. DJT

Hi, What kind of printer were you using? If it is a network shared printer, you may try to ping it when the issue occurs, if it fails to ping, it indicates that the issue is caused by network connectivity. If it is a local printer and installed via USB, you may try to plug out and in or restart the printer spooler service for a test. Hope this helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. You need to ensure you can communicate to the printer via the desktop. Is the printer installed locally on your machine? (ping the printer's ip) or are you installing it from a network? Ensure you have the correct dirviers downloaded from the OEMs website (they will be the most up to date ones) If you cannot communicate to the printer it means there is a network issue. When you install the printer what port are you using?

Go to system settings and select the ‘Printer’ option. Right-click on the printer and enable the ‘Use Printer Online’ function. Cancel all the printing jobs till that moment and redo the process. Sometimes the ‘Printer Offline’ message occurs due to a ‘Job Stuck’ issue. Check all network connections and functions. Be sure the network interfaces work properly. Turn the printer off and on to see whether the device is working properly.Printer Support
