Printer Sharing?!?!? I am unable to connect to the desktop from my laptop.
It keeps on saying \\computername is not accessible. you may not have access to this network resource. This is my first time setting up a network, and I am having a really really hard time. The desktop has XP and Norton 360 and the printer is connected to it. The laptop which has Vista and McAfee. I have done everything. I tried typing in the IP address and it gave me the same message. I tried typing \\computername and it gave me the same message. I did a network map and the desktop was not clickable. I installed the LLTD on the desktop. I did the regedit and changed the value. I tried adding a printer and I typed \\computername\printername and it asked for a username and password. The user account on my desktop has no password. Both computers are in the WORKGROUP workgroup. I have searched endlessly for any answers and they've led me nowhere. Does it have something to do with the firewall or something? I don't know what else to do.

Check the firewall settings on both machines. Ensure that they are set to allow traffic to/from the other PCs MAC address.

Make sure that Norton 360 is also configured properly for the home network. You can do so by performing the following steps. http://service1.symantec.com/support/norton360.nsf/docid/2006041713504975?OpenDocument&lg=en&ct=aa&seg=hho&src=ap_hot -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com

Hi, Can the computers ping each other? This kind of issues is usually firewall related. I suggest that you temporarily turn off (uninstall would be better) the firewall/antivirus on both machines and check the result.
