Shareing Ports Advanced in windows XP are all Greyed out they can see them but not change anything.
How do i replicate this into windows 7, Ive checked the GPOs at the server end and nothing is jumping out at me, I can only presume its a local Policy.
can anybody steer me as to how i grey these out in windows 7
many thanks
P.S Note to admins, please leave thread alive i tend to take a week or 2 to test and feedback due to out of country consulting :) your too efficient :)

Hi,
This would be related to the permission, if the user is not member of the Administrators group, you might cannot modify the settings of printer, because every modification could affect everyone
who uses the printer.

Morning Alex, i looked into your advice but couldnt get it working, I actually opened a PSS call and this is what i have so far
The permissions on a printer are controlled from the 2008R2 server the Q is hosted on, problem i have it we dont use Windows printing but a 3rd party product, Thus the server cannot control the access rights to the properties area.
Ive asked the MCS team to give me the manual reg edits that the said process addresses so i can manually add them.
If you like you can keep it open for the solution or close it down, appreciate the help on this matter

Ok guys ive heard back from MSS and they are struggling so i wanted to ask it back to the forums.
If you create a windows 2008 R2 print Queue you can the amend the permissions on that queue so that when a user maps it they only can amend tray type etc, and have no access to advanced ports etc.
I want to know which Registry keys this effect on windows 7, where does the policy target and what attributes does it write /change to make the properties of that network pinter be unaccesable to the user.
thanks

Hi,
You may check the default print server security settings, to see and configure who can manage the
printer.
