Print spooler problems with Windows 7
I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium and neither of my printers work now. The print spooler keeps failing and when i restart it and try to add a printer it still won't work. Tried looking for a updated driver thought i found one but that didn't fix the problem either.I reinstalled the HP software for my HP C6180 that didn't help and I can't find any Windows 7 drivers for my Lexmark. I've been on the Microsoft website trying different approachs but haven't found anything that specificaly calls out the problem. Thanks,Vaughn

Which Lexmark printer is this? I had just helped someone else solve their problem with a lexmark. You say neither of my printers - what printers do you have - be specific on brands/models. Also which version of windows do you have? 32bit or 64bit?For the C6180 the 32bit software is here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=4062&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1153494 Reinstalling software doesn't help if not done correctly. However I will assume that for now that HP didn't have you download and install the update which WOULD have fixed your HP printer problem which is also as that same link. For the 64bit version of c6180 its here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=4063&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1153494.So lets make sure its all clean before attempting to download those Windows 7 drivers. Uninstall ALL HP printer related software. Then unplug all your printers. Reboot and then install the BIG package from either of the links that appropriate for your OS. Lets get one printer working. But do tell us what your Lexmark is, as it has very specific instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling which I'll post once I know which model you have. If the issue persists after installing the proper printer driver, it can be related to the printer spooler. Please try the following suggestions and see if the issue can be resolved: Clear Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service ==================== 1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. 2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 3. Click Stop and click OK. 4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the open window, and delete all files in this folder. 5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. 6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK. If the issue still exists, please run troubleshooting tool by the steps below: 1. Please go to Start -> Control Panel -> Devices and Printers. 2. In the list, right click on the problematic printer and then click Troubleshoot. 3. If the problem is found, click "Fix it". Hope this helps. Regards, Linda

THanks A LOT! You saved me! I was ready to toss my frustrating printer in the trash before I read this and it did it! The Windows FIXIT thing didn't work for me. Great job Linda!
