Previous Version disappears
So I'm restoring a large file from previous versions, something I have "sold" to customers as a great system, then a window pops up, stating the file can't be found. I close it go back and there are no previous versions at all, none for any folder on the drive.Any ideas on this - I realize the file I was trying to restore is gone but I would like to know that I can count on this system.

Hi KfouttsDid the file actually disappear while it was being restored? If so, I don't think we have seen any other reports of this yet?Check the following.Open Control Panel/System/Advanced System Settings/System Protection Tab. Make sure that System Restore is still turned on for that drive. If it is, click the Create Button at the bottom of that dialog box and make sure that a new System Restore Point is created successfully.Go back to the large file in question and take a look at the Properties/Previous Versions Tab of the file to make surethat a new Previous Version appears with the date/time stamp that corresponds to the new Restore Point that you created.Let us know.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

If by any chance you are dual booting with XP there is a known issue where system restore points and previous versionsmaybe erasedwhen booting back into 7 afterusingXP.

Thanks for the replies! I am not, haven't been dual booting but I have been installingthe latest build of 7 quite often recently. I have a hardware RAID 1 volume, the drive that this occured on, that is just data. I don't think "previous versions" carry over from a new installation but maybe the OS install had some effect - also the file being restored was 16gb or so.I did have previous versions turned on for this drive and it did lose all previous version in the middle of the restore. When I went to check system protection was turned off for the drive, the drive also had about 50gb more free space than it did. There is more than enoughfree space on the volume, over 700gb) So, something happened for sure, but maybe my 'testing' had something to do with this and along with that takes it out any normal operation to measure stability. This does bring up a question - are previous versions retained with a new OS install? I think maybe with an upgrade but not with a new install. Carrying on that my thinking is accurate then what does a new OS do with existing previous version data?I am totally impressed with Seven!
