Power settings
I have recently installed Windows 7 RC and have set balanced power saving plan with display turnoff after 15 minutes and put computer to sleep after 30 minutes. The computer does not go automatically into sleep mode after 30 minutes and if I put it in to sleep mode manually it restarts almost immediately. There appears to be no programme running in the background and the BIOS settings appear to be correct. Motherboard is an ASUS M2R32-MVP.

Nigel - There are a number of known issues with sleep, hibernation and standby modes. With any luck the programmers will have them fixed in time for the final release...The solution at the moment is to NOT put the machine to sleep...

The issue occurs if one of the device drivers is not compatible, or the ACPI of the current BIOS does not work with Windows 7 RC. The issue can also be caused by software confliction. I suggest that you temporary disable your WIFI network device and check the result. If the issue reoccurs, try the following method. 1. Open a command prompt and run the command powercfg -devicequery wake_armed 2. Try to disable each of these devices above one by one and test the problem until you find the culprit that keeps waking up the computer. powercfg -devicedisablewake "device name" 3. Once you find the one that is causing problems, you can re-enable the other devices. powercfg -deviceenablewake "device name" Regarding the problem device, it is recommended to install the driver and contact manufacturer to address the problem. If you find that the issue is not caused by any device, lets disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. If the issue still occurs in Clean Boot Mode, I suggest that you download the latest BIOS from ASUS website and install it.
