Power Surge problem on CPU
We had a power outage in the middle of night. When power came back on it must have done a job on CPU. We have a surge protector on it though. When I press the button to power up, it does nothing. It's on Dell Dimension 8300. Any help would be appreciated.1 person needs an answerI do too

perhaps, the circuit breaker to the power surge or the wall outlet needs to be reset.if not, then it sounds like the power supply has become faulty.db`...> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >

Thank you for your quick response. The power surge protector is O.K. It's funny , everything hooked up to it works fine. Just the CPU doesn't work. It makes me wonder if these things even work at all. I think you're right on that it's the power supply. I've been seeing it on sites on our other computer. I opened the CPU up & there's a little green light on somewhere towards the middle of CPU. I don't know if I'm taking a chance on buying a new power supply & then that wasn't the problem. Are you pretty sure it would be this ? Any suggestions ?Like a test or something . I have an old Gateway power supply but I don't know if it would work on a Dell

though the fans may run and you might see some led lights, it doesn't mean the power supply is providing suficient power to the motherboard.one way to determine if the power supply is dysfunctional is when you press the power button to on and you can't access the bios.the bios is the first processs that engages when the motherboard is powered.to access the bios, you should check the manual for the computer.however, usually the del key or the f2 key can be held down immediately after pressing the power button to on.what should occur is that a screen will pop up that will identify the harddrives, the time and date and additinal configuration settins.so if you can't even access the bios, then it is likely the powersupply is faulty.you could try using an old power supply from another computer. however, look into purchasing a powersupply and save the receipt. most often than not you can always return it for credit.db`...> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >

Most surge protectors have a $25,000 warranty, to repair appliances on the load side. Contact the manufacturer of the surge protector.
