Possible to rename a scheduled task via the GUI?
It seems that the name of a scheduled task in Windows 7 is greyed-out (cannot be edited) after the task has been created. Is this by design? Or am I missing something? I find it less than ideal to have to Export/Import a scheduled task simply to change its name. Thank you.

This is a strange. I've been using Scheduled Tasks for months but never realized this. You're not missing anything. It's the same on my computer too! I also tried disabling the task before trying to rename it, but it didn't help. After looking online for a long time online - what you mentioned was the only work around (export-rename-import again). I also navigated to C:\Windows\System32\Tasks where the tasks are saved. Renaming from here made it disappear from Scheduled Task. Only renaming it back to the original made it show up on Task Scheduler again. I would like a response from Microsoft here so as to why is it not possible to rename tasks?Kunal D Mehta - a Windows Server Enthusiast | My first TechNet Wiki Article

Hi, I confirmed this question with my colleague; it looks this is by design. For a security workaround, as you said, export-rename-import. Hi Alex, Would it be possible to get more details on this? What is the exact reason (behind the design decision) for not being allowed to rename a scheduled task? A response would be highly appreciated, thanks! :) Kunal D Mehta - a Windows Server Enthusiast | I'm on facebook.com/serverbaba
