Possible to recover data from a formatted partition? HELP!
So I have the Windows 7 RC installed on a 150 gb hard drive. On a seperate drive, I had a storage partition sitting at the very end with all my documents, pictures, etc. It was 122 gb. I had 110 gb of unallocated space before it, so I decide to expand the storage volume by 60 gb. Afterwards, I had a 60 gb partition at the beginning of the hard drive, 50 gb of unallocated space after it, and then the 122 gb storage file at the end. I did not like how windows seperated the storage partition, so I right clicked on the 60 gb partition at the beginning and hit delete. Windows then deletes bothe the 60 gb partition and the 122 gb partition, along with all of my documents. Do I have a chance of recovering my precious data?

yes you do but by people with special software and competencies. As long as you dont continue using the hard drive too much. When you delete or even format a disk, the files arent really deleted, they are marked to be overwritten.unless someone in the forums knows some software to recover your drives, i would bring it to specialists to do it, isnt that expensive.Benjamin Niaulin

Acronis Disk Director has a partition recovery feature. I've used it on one occasion and recovered a partition after reformating the entire drive.

Do you have any suggestions for freeware or a trial version that will get the job done? Money is pretty tight. I tried the freeware testdisk but it couldn't recover the partition I wanted. Also triedNTFS Data Recovery, it found everything but would not restore it without buying the full version. I'm trying Acronis right now, but it gave me a warning message that I had unsupportable file system types. That might be the Storage partition I want (testdisk said it couldn't recover it because it was dynamic or something), or it might be the ext3 Linux Ubuntu partition I had sitting on the same Hard Drive. Thanks.

ZAR didn't work, I'm going to try the trial version of Data Recovery Wizard and may buy the full version.

Bought it for $70, ugh. Recovered everything quick and easy though.

Hello, Since you have deleted both 60 GB partition and 122 GB partition and all documents were there therefore it becomes necessary to restore the lost data. But I am sorry to inform you that you can not restore the data from the formatted partition from the system itself. For recovering the lost data you need to make use of third party partition recovery software. By making use of this software application you can restore all the deleted data from the formatted partition safely.
