Possible to limit the usage of USB Stick according to the capacity?
Hello, is it possible, perhaps with GroupPolicies, to limit the usage of USB Sticks? Lets say, to limit the usage of USB sticks up to 256 MB. Is it also possible to limit access to USB sticks for only read access? Thanks for your help. Best regards, Danny

I'm not aware of any Group Policy that would restrict the drive usage by capacity. As for enforcing the read-only access to the USB drives, our software Folder Guard can do that. Basically, you need to create a "filter" that would apply to any drive other than C: and assign the "read-only" attribute to the filter. That would enable the read-only access to any drive other than C:. See the User's Guide for the details. Hope this helps, Andrei Belogorsteff, WinAbility Software Corp.

Hi, Thank for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. Based on my knowledge, you can prevent the installation of a device with group policy, but maybe this could not be made according to capacity: How to use Windows 7 to lock down removable media and keep your computer safe http://blogs.technet.com/b/opsvault/archive/2010/09/09/how-to-use-windows-7-to-lock-down-removable-media-and-keep-your-computer-safe.aspx Device Management and Installation Step-by-Step Guide: Controlling Device Driver Installation and Usage with Group Policy http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731387(v=ws.10).aspx But you could try to use the following steps to make USB stick read only: Click on the Start button, type regedit into the Search box and hit Enter. In the Registry Editor, drill to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control. Right-click on Control, select New > Key and name it StorageDevicePolicies. Right-click on the new StorageDevicePolicies key, select New > DWORD and name it WriteProtect. Right-click on the new WriteProtect DWORD, select Modify, enter 1 into the Value Data field and click Ok. Hope it helps. Regards, Alex Zhao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum.
