Possible to get MSRA (MS Remote Assistant) on XP?
We have a challenge where our helpdesk department will for some time still run on XP but needs to support customer running on Win7.Is it possible to get the new remote assistant (msra.exe) to run in an XP environment? I tried just copying the msra.exe from a Win7 PC to an XP, but running it just gives me a "Not avalid Win32 app" which is odd because both systems are x86. Any workaround here to get it running on XP nativly? PS: RDC is not an option as it does not let you shadow/interact directly with the user on a client. (I do know of the shadow session thing, but that's not an option either)

I've recently connected from XP Pro SP3 to win7, the RA request was sent from win7 by email. It worked just fine. I have not installed or copied any components. --pa

Invites is not something we use or will ever use as we are supporting 20 000+ users. We need the ability to remote a computer by supplying the IP/FQDN as Win7 RA does.

Hm, so you need actually a remote access (unattended?), no remote assistance. Something like this or LogMeIn/hamachi? --pa

You can install Windows Live Messenger and use the Remote Assistance feature in it.
