Possible issue with Windows 7 OS Security
BACKGROUND: For this weekend, and the guests that would be arriving, I decided to create user accounts for my system (Win 7 Pro x64). Four accounts were created, in addition to my primary account (which is also the the Admin account). ISSUE: Primary account became locked out after creation of additional profiles. STEPS: 1) Created each account using Control Panel > Add or Remove User Accounts. Was done one after the other, without logging off and logging in to the new accounts. 2) Selected Switch User on the Start button. 3) Logged into the first new account. 4) Initial setup required credentials from an administrator profile. Was prompted to provide password for my administrator profile; which was provided. 5) Immediately received account is currently locked out error message. 6) Logged off the standard profile, and attempted to log in with my admin profile; failed because account was locked. 7) Attempted to use flash drive reset option. 8) Received error Unable to reset password due to error. The above is an accurate outline of each step. My system is secured using UAC standard settings, and I have passwords assigned to everything. QUESTION: 1) Why would the above happen? 2) What would the OS be doing that would corrupt/disable my primary profile on a simple creation of new profiles? 3) Is there a fix for it?

Sometimes lockouts are on sort of a timer meaning you need to wait for a period before trying again. Please check if the issue disappear after a reboot. However, if the issue persists, could you please provide the following information? - Is your computer in a domain or a workgroup? - What error appears when resetting the password? - Is the password of the account expired? In the meantime, please also try the following suggestions and see if the issue can be resolved: 1. Open Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy. 2. Click Security Settings -> Account Policies -> Account Lockout Policy. 3. Double-click Account lockout threshold, and type 0 to make “the account will not lock out”. 4. Click OK. Also, you can refer to the suggestions in this thread and see they help: Switching users locks account Regards, Linda Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
