Port 443 https blocked http, port 80 works fine
Hello everyone.I have a 10 year old laptop (I know it's old but I like this one it's like a glove) I use XP. I was typing on words and all of a sudden everythig went blue and you could tell that the hard drive was running. It kinda look like it was on safe mode. Anyhow I shut down (power plug off it) and restarted it. It restarted fine except that now if I try to go on https ie8 says that it cannot display the webpage. All other http works fine. I tried pretty well anything I could even under ie8 tools advanced making sure that all of the types of https were checked but to no avail. I scanned the computer for virus with norton 360 and it found 3 issues that it corrected along with an annotation that port 443 is blocked. I removed all other firewall except for Norton 360 as I was told it was the thing to do. Nowere I can find how to resolve the problem....can anyone helpThanks muchGilles

Hi Sorry for the delay in responding. I was out of town Anyhow I did what you asked, I disabled Norton firewall and activated windows firewall. Not sure how to check blocked 443 in windows firewall ,but where I went showed me that https was not blocked. But I still have the same problem even with both firewall disabled. Thanks again. Gilles

Even if both the firewalls are disabled your problem still persists?? Thats weird.Try enabling only windows firewall. Now to go to Windows Firewall. Go to exceptions port and add port 443. try accessing now. let me know what happens with that. Thanks Regards Dinesh

Ok lets have your Norton work for us. Now first make sure Windows firewall is turned off. Now lets allow 443 port in Norton 360. Turn on Norton 360. Click "Settings" on the top in the N360 main window. In the new window, click "Firewall Protection Settings". Next, click the "Firewall traffic Rules" tab. Press the "Add" button on the bottom of the window. Next follow in this order to forward your port: Allow: Allow connections to match this rule Connections from other computers Any Computer The protocol you want to allow : TCP and UDP On the same screen, click "Only communications that match all types of ports listed below. Press "Add" on the same window. Filter By: Individually specified ports. Locality : Local On the box, enter your port number. Click next, next and next to add the port.Try accessing the sites now. Let me know what happens with that. Regards Dinesh

One more thingI tough that maybe if I use the restore function to bring it back to a date I know the https was working BUT I tried about 3 different date from the beginning of the month, and the reply I get from the system is that there is nothing to restore or something to that effect.Gilles
