Port 25 blocked (outlook 2002)
Hi, I have a laptop running windows XP and Outlook 2002 and I can not send emails. I have all the correct settings for smtp and pop3 email accounts but I still get an error when trying to send emails. I have also used Outlook Express on the same machine but it returns the same error. I have tried telnet my_domain.com 25 and it tells me that port 25 is closed and used alternative port 2525 but still the same error. Any help would be great thanks1 person needs an answerI do too

Most ISPs aren't allowing SMTP traffic on port 25 any more. You need to check with your email provider (usually your ISP) for the correct port to use.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

There are good discussions of this at http://bit.ly/G46Pm and at http://bit.ly/4OqaEe with some ways around the problem.

Call the hosting company of your domain make sure they do have the alternative port 2525 available on their servers (I know networksolutions.com does). Or if it is any other port, what it is. Also, if you are going crazy with this and do need a quick solution, maybe until you figure out the problem with the domain hosting company you should talk to your ISP and ask them to let you know their smtp server. Additionally, make sure you have the "enable authentication" checked on the outgoing email account.Cheers! MCSE - www.nextstepnetworks.com
