I've been working with Windows for years and this is the first time I have seen anything like this. I am hoping someone can confirm this is a normal function of Windows and not something more insideous. I have an old iPod I hadn't used in a while and hooked it up to my Windows 7 PC today. Windows came up and said it had installed the driver. A moment later I got a popup message saying that "an application was trying to show me a messaqe" but could not and to "Click Here" to see the message. The box was branded like a windows message and seemed harmless enough. When I clicked where indicated, the screen wetn black like it was switching resolutions, then took me to a greyish-white screen. There was a message saying that The iPod needed t be formatted with the option to click "ok" which I did. There was also a windows branded popup saying when I was done viewing the message to click okay again to go back. I clicked that and I was back to the desktop. Since I didn't think the iPod was completely installed, I unplugged and re-connected the USB cable. Again I got the message about the application trying to show me a message but not being able to. I clicked on the link, screen went black, then to greyinsh white, and I saw what appeared to be part of an Itunes install. I tried to run the install but it said it was already in use (I had itunes open at the time I believe). I clicked on the link saying I was done viewing the message and was taken back to the desktop. Is this a normal feature of windows 7? Why would the application not be able to show me a message? Was it going into some type of compatability mode? After a lot of googling I have only found two references to this type of behavior and they provided little detail. The iPod is working fine so normally that would be the end of it, but shortly after this occurred, Kapersky 2010 flagged an incident of 'suspicious behavior' referencing a keylogger. Research online shows this is probably a false positive, but I would feel better if I knew this odd "Trying to show you a message" behavior was definitely part of the Windows 7 OS and not a virus or other bit of malware tricking me into running something. Eitherr peice by itself doesn't seem like a threat, but together they make me nervous, Anyone seen this behavior and have any details on it? Thanks in advance! -Switch

switchdoc, What you see is the Session 0 isolation that kicks in. Verry high level explained is that a application / Service /driver / ... that runs not in your user context (e.g. in SYSTEM context). Wants to show something in Session 0 (Your actual desktop you see). Hi Switch, As Daft mentioned, please update your Apple software first. You may first uninstall the current one and then install the new one. Please also update your BIOS and device drivers from computer manufacturer's website. Hope it helps.Vivian Xing - MSFT
