The Microsoft downloader performs its own validation before it declares the download to be complete. So if it completed, you're fine.

yep, but some of us dont use MS downloadersdid it print outthe hash for you?thanks
May 5th, 2009 7:06pm

It didn't, but running MS's fciv utility on the MS download gives the following (x64 RC): // // File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05. // MD5 SHA-1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 98341af35655137966e382c4feaa282d fc867fe1ab2e0a9796f9e4d155b44ea6998f4874

Sorry Ronnie, I didn't know it was forbidden here to post a SHA-1 hash computed from the RC downloaded directly from Microsoft (I see you deleted my post with that information). Are we permitted to post a link to the Microsoft page that publicly announces the same information? If so: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/securedownloads/default.aspx

Ok, thanks for the clarification, Ronnie. As for the MSDN link I posted, it's available to the general public, not just subscribers. I'm not a subscriber myself. The RC download link is greyed out for me on that page, but the SHA-1 hash is displayed when I click on Details. So Microsoft has chosen to publicly disseminate that information.

Hi GaryNow I must apologize.I just received word that those MSDN/Technet subscription pages are available to the public. Apparently this was a recent change that I was totally unaware of.I restored your deleted post.Sorry for the misunderstanding.Thank You for testing Windows 7 RC Ronnie Vernon MVP

Hi MartinPlease see my recent post to Gary.In this case, I made an error when I deleted his post.We all have rules we must follow, even though they are not always understandable, there is always agood reason behind them. You can also take a look at the following thread for a more complete description of the forum support policy.Windows 7 Unofficial BuildsThanks,Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

i dont understand what isthe holdup with posting these hashes here and frankly i can care less, so I can live if you can just email them to me @ martin3361 at hotmail period com. Martin, my post with the hash information has been reinstated. But in the meantime, why didn't you just use the link I provided to the Microsoft page with the same information? It's more reliable to get the information from Microsoft than from some random person on the Internet.

hi Garyi actually did use that link, i was just reading the thread backwards and didnt see it until i already responded.but, those on the MSDN must be different builds because the SHA1 hashes arent the same my 32bit ends with 9712 and 64bit ends with 4874.*sigh*im at work today and we have a quick link here so Im just going to redownload them with the IE, which I have been trying to avoid, such is paranoia.anyways. im really curious now what those hashes will be after IE download.

Martin, the numbers you mention for your downloads are correct. Perhaps you were looking at the "checked versions" (from 2009-05-05) on the MSDN page. Those aren't the same as the released versions (further down the page, from 2009-04-30). The checked versions are instrumented with additional debugging/monitoring tools for developers.

so i used the IE with the akamai downloader that it installs, downloaded both images.the hashes are the same for both downloads (yesterday and redownload today) but that has is different then from that link that you posted.... so that must be a different build i guess.well at any rate. have fun testing
May 7th, 2009 6:08pm

Martin, did you see my earlier post about the checked version?

Sorry, no, i didnt refresh, but now, i did make sure it wasnt the "checked" version, because I have seen your previous post's exchanges with Ronnie, so i was avoiding it, I just refreshed that link again and this time the hashes are correct, so I think that MSDN hash i saw yesterday was from the very first release to MSDN subscribers last week, now all seem to be the same.ok, I think this thread can be closed. it would things so much easier just to post the hash on the same page as the license key during download process.i hate the downloaders, every other site wants you to download their own downloader. my net-pet-peev i guess :)cheersGary, Ronnie, thanks for your help.

Hi Martin. Glad it's all set now! Just for the record, though, the 2009-04-30 release to subscribers is identical to the 2009-05-05 general-public release. Same bits, same hash.
