Well, thought I'd try out UAC and see how I could work with it. That fateful decision resulted in: Actions: 1) Logged in with Admin Profile. 2) Displayed Control Panel 3) Went to User id home page 4) Selected Turn UAC on/off. 5) Selected Turn UAC on from that page. 6) Rebooted Results: 1) Admin profile disappeard from log in screen. 2) Logged on using Power User profile (another family member). 3) Attempted to use options to remove UAC 4) Required Admin profile password 5) Typed password - known to be correct. 6) Message result: User Id locked out and cannot be accessed. Tried: 1) Boot into safe mode. 2) Need admin profile - locked out. 3) Tried command line safe mode - still no Admin profile shown - power user ineffective. Next Steps: 1) Try booting from Vista Disk - but don't know how that'll work. Please help. No access to email. Need to figure out what went wrong so I can get system back. - Jim

Hi Jim, Based on your description, this issue may be normal and not directly related to the UAC components. The built-in Administrator should be automatically disabled and disappeared from logon screen if you created another active local administrator account. If the built-in administrator account is disabled, you even cannot log on to a computer in safe mode by using the built-in administrator account if one of the following conditions is true: The computer is a member of a workgroup. The computer is not joined to a domain. At least one active local administrator account exists. For more information, please see KB942956: The changes to the built-in administrator account in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942956/en-us To resolve this, you need to simply enable the built-in Administrator. Right click on "My Computer" and "Manage" and then open "Computer Management" and locate to "Local Users and Groups", then open the Properties of Administrator and enable this account. For your reference, to disable UAC, please do the followings: 1. Run "secpol.msc" in an elevated Command Prompt. 2. Go to "Security Settings" --> "Local Policies" --> "Security Options" 3. Set "User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode" to "No prompt". 4. Reboot your computer. Another way to disable UAC: 1. Run "msconfig" elevated. 2. Go to "Tools" tab. 3. Launch "Disable UAP" and click "OK" (for RC1 this will change to 'Disable UAC' per Windows OS bug 1632844). 4. Reboot your computer. Hi, I am haveing a similar problem. My Administrator Account is Disabled as it was when I started Vista. My First account that I made that has Administrative access has been locked out and can't be accessed causeI had it set to 0 on the lockout duration so i would know if anyone tryed getting on my account for sure. My alternate User account created so asI didn't have to log on as an administrator is working fine but has no access to change anything dealing with administrator access. All I get is the UAC promptes asking my for a password to an account that is perminatly locked out till my administrator unlocks it. What can I do to get this problem fixed since the other administrator account is disabled? I tryed all the steps above all asked for administrative access, and I'm sure if i could get the command line promt one to work then it would aslo tell meI need to run with elivation sinceI can't run it in administrators mode.
