Playstation 3 can't find my Media Server
How I get my PS3 to find my Windows 7 machine as a 'Media Server'? Sees my old XP laptop, but I can't figure out how to get Windows 7 setup to do the same.

Hello asfaraslarry,This sounds like an issue of network detection. I would see if Sony has any updated firmware for the unit that deals with networking with either Windows Vistaor Windows 7.-Scott

I don't understand why this was moved to a networking forum, as the question was specific to being able to share Windows Media with other devices, but I'll continue... To be more specific, here's something I found posted in a PS forum, but I don't see where this option is to change it. Someone else posted they used the advice to get it to work: "I got the same exact error you did and struggled with it until I figured out it was just a silly windows 7 option that wasn't quite apparent at first. If you are in WMP12 and hit [share->share with media devices]you will notice that in the "Controlaccess to my media on:"drop downyou haveNetwork and All Networks. Choose all networks and you should see an "uknown device" which is your PS3. By default that is blocked. Change the option to Allowed and you are on your way. I hope this solves your issue, as it has solved mine." I don't see where this [share->share with media devices] setting is in WMP12. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be most appreciated. Although, now that it's been moved to a networking forum, I don't suppose the people in the Media forum (who would be more inclined to be familiar with this) will ever see it.

Hello asfaraslarry,The settings you refer to from that other post are located in Network and Sharing Center under Advanced sharing options. Choose Media Streaming and enable it. You will then see the option for this network and all networks. Being a connectivity issue between 2 seperate devices is why it got moved I would suspect.-Scott

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Looks like I have a firewall issue now with AVG, now that you helped me resolve the other, but that's outside the scope of this forum and will have to track that down with them. Thanks again.
