You should be able to right click on it and select "Pin" - John

Thank you for your response. But that doesn't work with batch files. Although I asked about "ruby interpreter", my question was in general about batch files. I was just in too much of a hurry to bother asking the question clearly...sorry about that. You could drag batch files onto the start menu to pin them there, but you can't just drag them onto the taskbar...tried that...doesn't work.

Eitch, You are right. You cant pin a batch file to the taskbar. However, what you can do is make a toolbar that consists of the folder that contains your ruby interpreter. To do so, right click on the taskbar, select Toolbars and New Toolbar. Select the folder that contains your interpreteror one that contains a shortcut to the interpreter. You will then have a two-click taskbar solution as opposed to a single-click pinned icon. Oddly enough, I found were the pinned shortcut go. When you pin an application to the taskbar, Windows creates a shortcut in the below folder path. C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar However, if you manually create a shortcut there, you dont see a corresponding icon on the taskbar. Likewise, I could not find anything in the registry. $.02
