Pinging both dynamic and static ip address
we are running windows 7 and We are getting some really strange behavior from the
on-board NIC. When it was first put on the network it picked up a DHCP address. Now, even when we assign it a static address, both the DHCP
and static IP will ping. Doing an 'arp -a' command shows that both
IP's report back the same MAC address. Here is where it starts getting
strange: When we disabled the NIC the static IP quits pinging, however
the DHCP assigned address keep holding a ping. We turned off the box
and both quit pinging. When it came back up both started pinging. If
we pull the Ethernet cable from the box, both pings die. We tried
doing an 'ipconfig /release' and the command worked, but then about 30
seconds later the DHCP assigned address started pinging again. The
DHCP server shows the same MAC address picking up the lease again. We
tried to disable IPV6 just in case that was causing the problem, but
that didn't help. Any ideas?

Did you make sure to open your command window as administrator? (right click and run as administrator?)

Are you still having this issue and if not, how was it resolved? I'm having the identical problem.
Thank you!
