Ping and tracert in command prompt timed out

Hello!

I am having issues with my local network it would seem. I noticed a very slow upload/download progress when transferring files in Filezilla to our new dedicated web server located in the US. The server support guys asked me to use ping and tracert in CMD to test my network connectivity, and almost all of the connections "timed out".

I am currently sitting on my laptop with Wifi. My broadband connection comes from a DSL line, and connects to a router, which then is connected to a wireless router. From there, the wireless router sends the wifi signal to my laptop.

All well and good.

I have no problems whatsoever with transferring files in Filezilla to our other domains that are located on a shared hosting provider at another company. I have tested my download/upload speeds online at speedtest.net - and I am at full speed.

I can surf the web without issues, stream movies online, etc. etc.

The only issue is with our dedicated web server apparently.

Can someone help a non-techie sort this out?

Thank you!

You have landed in IT professional forum. Better forum for general public is here

1. If you reach your server and can download files from your server, then you have connectivity and test by pinging server has no reason in this case. If you really want to continue ping test, then add w parameter and appropriate number of milisecond. Ping on IP address. Example:

ping 23.62.162.35 -w 6000

2. There are other mechanisms that may play the role:

a. Transfer rate on server is limited (server administrator should configure it)

b. QoS is set somewhere on the route (from client computer up to the server)

c. Errors on router(s) (error in configuration, path not optimal, trace ove satellite, etc)

You see that without more diagnostics information it is very hard to provide a good advice. Place more information in answers forum, namely

ipconfig /all

route print
