Phantom drives. Windows 7 pro 64 bit. via-p vt6205-devb usb device problems.
Hello I have recently restored the OS to manufacture level solved my problem but brought more. I now have 4 extra drives" via-p vt6205-dev* usb device" where * is j, k,l,and q described in Disk management as Removable. No media. letters J,K,L,Q. Disk 7,8,9,10. One of them disk 10 currently causes some programs such as Advanced Uninstaller Pro not to start and puts up the error message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \device\harddisk10\dr10" This condition can only be fixed by repeated applications of End Task in Windows Task Manager. Each time that I try a Critical Event appears in Reliability History. Each phantom drive has the option of disabling or uninstalling but I am cautious and do not want to generate even more problems. Please advise the best way forward. Any new USB device uses a letter from those remaining unused. Regards Raymond Griggs Sony Vaio VPCEB2L9E
