Phantom USB device not recognized
Hello, I have a problem with a USB device I don't have. My computer keeps telling me that there is some USB device which malfunctioned and it has been disabled. This message pops up annoyingly often, and even though infact the Device Manager shows an "unknown device" (with the yellow "!" sign)among the USB ports, this just cannot be, as I unplugged every single USB device and rebooted. The unknown device is still there. I don't think this has anything to do with malware and such, as I regularly run Windows Update, and update my antivirus and antispyware. My PC is a Phenom II 3.2GHz 64 bits on a MSI 770-G45 motherboard, I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 Eng.It seems also that this is a rather common issue. I have read on the net a "solution" which I honestly didn't try, because it seemed rather stupid: I should shut down my pc and unplug the power chord for at least 2 minutes, and then boot up. o_O I will try this when I run out of hopes... Suggestions? Thanks!

Apply this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539 and open device manager and remove all unknown USB device entries. André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

@André It doesn't work. I forgot to mention, I had tried already to remove unknown devices from devmgmt, but they come back when rebooting or when asking to detect hardware changes.

can you look at the details and look for hardwareids? So that we can look at a PCI database to see which device it is."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Hi, According to your description, I suspect that maybe you have not install any device's driver. so please try to reinstall the mainboard's driver and the sound driver or video card driver. of course, you may use some 3rd partly tools to detect what kind of device you have not install drivers. In addition, have you tried to install the driver from the default driver derectory.
