Persistent chat

Hi,

We have Lync 2013 standard edition installed on one of our servers, we are currently looking at implementing Persistent chat for users.  Please can you confirm if we need to purchase a full version of SQL in order for this feature to be implemented, or will the built in SQL instance within the standard edition be sufficient for this?

If a full version of SQL is required, can this be installed on the same Lync server or will it need to be on its own dedicated server?

Thanks

Hello S360 Pchat needs SQL server and unfortunately it can't be installed onto the SQL express as part of your standard edition. Also it's not supported installing SQL server onto the same server as the standard edition FrontEnd, and although I've not tested it I would have as a guess that the topology won't allow you to publish with the same server name as the FE. So your requirements are 1x server running 2008r2 or higher OS Installed onto this SQL Server 2008r2 or higher for the PChat Db Regards Iain Smith

Persistent Chat Server can be deployed on the Standard Edition server. The Persistent Chat Server Back End Server and the Persistent Chat Compliance database can be collocated on the Standard Edition server on the local SQL Server Express Back End Server.

Many thanks both of you.

If i setup a new server and install SQL 2012 standard along with a database named PCHAT, then point the persistent chat to the servers FQDN and the database, this should provide the features required?

Many thanks

Yes. That is supported topology Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition server and Persistent Chat Server on a separate server using Standard Edition server as the next hop server.
