Permissions changed for a hard drive and it's files
A friend thought he would be funny ... and also thinking that "of course it will be easy to change back" (grrrr) ... to change Permissions for an entire drive (folder) for EVERYONE to Deny. There were no other groups specified with an Allow
Access for this drive. Is there a way to change this in Windows7 or to give another group (Administrators for instance) access to this drive? Keep in mind that the Security Properties tab no longer shows up for me or for the Administrator userid for
this drive. I have Windows 7 Professional.
Thank you for any direction or assistance!

Hi,
First, I suggest perform a
System Restore to the good point. If the issue persists, please boot in Safe Mode and enable the built-in Administrator Account with the following command.
net user administrator /active:yes

As stated the administrator account is already active. Second, when permissions are done like that the permissions are put on every single file. Restoring to a previous restore point will reset the SYSTEM files but not the individual files. I'm trying
to find out if there is a roundabout way to add a new group to access that drive since neither the Administrator userid nor my userid have access to it.
Thank you,
Don

As an Administrator you will have to take ownership over the files first (Right click the folder, select Properties, Security tab, Advanced button, Owner tab). If this has been done, you can remove Everyone from ACL and readd which ever group or user account
you need to assign permissions.
