Permission to access folder
Efforts to copy External Drive to New Drive on NEW Win 7 Computer Give the following message "Your have been denied permisson to access this folder." To gain access to this folder your will need to use the "security tab". Following this thread involves a 2 step process to take "ownership" (because unable to ID the owner - then re-enter properties after adding the "Everyone" owner and then grant "full control". It then errors with "continue" for each image in the folder. But at the end the images and access to the folder and images is available. There are thousands of these folders - is there some way to apply it to the top folder and have it applied to all subfolders and images? this is a nightmare from HELL.

You can create a top folder and then you should make sure that the "Allow inheritable permissions from the parent to propagate to this object" option is checked on your subfolders. THANKS! - Looks like it is on the right track. Please advise for the following. 1) External Drive is currently back on an XP Pro computer (where most of the files were put on it - this drive has a history of being back & forth between a Vista Ultimate and the XP Pro & had not had any of these kind of problems. Move to Win 7 is hopefully going to "Fix" a lot of mayhem problems that have evolved over the years (kinda a comment on how do we ever swallow that evolutionary theory stuff?). 2)On the XP everything seems to be accessible, is shared fully; & is visible from Win-7 - but cannot copy to Win-7 from XP (Originating the command from Win-7) 3)XP Pro cannot paste to Win-7 4)The ? was going to be which computer do I create the folders from - but I guess by trying I discovered it has to be from the Win-7. The insturctions don't follow what I was finding exactly (a Big Plug for putting Screen Shots of the Windows and PopUps to show EXACTLY what & where to find each tab etc. 5) In principle I'm stumbling thru it and getting it to work - the key being to NOT inherit from its previous, but having to take what is assigned to it from the "Folder", but in the process I did not have to go to a Folder 3 - I guess maybe that was to demonstrate what was going to happern, by just going into Folder 2. As U can see I'm a stumbling novice, but think it might work even buy pasting them into folder one. 6 One note there has to be enough room on the drive to temporarily have duplicate copies if you are not willing to risk cutting and pasting them into the "new" folder. BUT THANKS _ it has made a workable - still labor intensive process, but it is drawing attention to getting rid of a lot of junk folders. ThanksWayne Makeeff
