Permission problems with a Canon scanner
Hi, I wonder if you can help me? For around three months a client has been happily using a Canon iRC2380i colour laser printer/copier/scanner with just two Vista Business SP2 PCs. Printing and copying aren't a problem, but since the addition of a second network printer scanning to the PCs from the Canon is. The problem stems from last Sunday when an HP Designjet plotter was installed incorrectly resulting in both of the Vista Business PCs being able to print to both HP and Canon devices, but unable to accept scans from the Canon. They contacted me on Monday and I installed the HP correctly. After this we were able to scan to one PC, but not the other. I checked it out as much as I could, but eventually had to contact the Canon support company who advised me that the error code indicated a permission issue, which I feel I have completely tested, as well as turning off NIS 2010. My clients' contract with the support company is only for hardware and would only get involved if my client paid £300 for 12 months to upgrade their service. This would probably only be for this one issue which they have obviously encountered before and could resolve remotely in 5 minutes. Canon do not provide any support, but have suggested we roll back the system (which failed from several restore points) and update the drivers. They did, however, confirm the error code was pointing to permissions, which I find a little baffling as it was the same error code generated for the original networking issue. The problem occurs when the PC connection is selected from the Canon console and a scan is sent to it. Within the web-based user interface for the Canon you give the connection a name and point it to a shared folder on the receiving PC via UNC connection, in this case \\david-pc\shared. I would say I have also tried replacing the computer name with it's IP address. I have set up several connections and shared folders all granting Everyone all permissions. The scanner console reads "Sending" then "Re-sending" before eventually failing. As I mentioned the other Vista PC works perfectly and I have mirrored the settings from it, so would be grateful if you would help me identify what could be blocking this procedure. Kind regards, Mike

Hi, Several questions: How was the additional printer installed? What is the exact error of not being able to receive scan files? From your description, it seems the issue occurs after the attempt to install HP Designjet plotter.During the ire-nstallation of HP Designjet plotter, certain value might remain in the registry. If possible, compare the registry keys between the two computers.
