Permission moving files or folders
I am getting the same problem with moving files as I have seen several others and it is causing a problem. I use this computer to safely store customers files (pics, music, docs, ect...) and am constantly gettint the administrator permission popup on some files and folders. I have takesn ownership, and disabled UAC and still get it. No matter what I do it will not copy these files, yet I can connect the same drive to a XP machine and it copies everything with no problems. I have even had some instances (only a few) where it did not pop up this box, but also did not copy everythnig in the folders. Not knowing it did this I formatted the drives and lost alot of the customers items. I do not have this problem with the beta version.

Is it part of a domain or just a workgroup PC with a share on it? Where is this share coming from? If I wanted it to be for anyone, I would create the folder in: C:\users\public\share - Set the permissions to everyone, and security for this share to everyone. Also check your sharing settings: Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

No, this is not a share or anything. I am Physically connecting a drive from another computer to this system. It does not do this all the time. I have tried changing ownership to administrator and my name with no luck. The files do not have little locks or anything on them and there was never a password on the user account the files are coming from.

AHHHH - Ok make sure when you take ownership or add your account (in security) into the drive or folder, you apply to all child objects. I can see why sometimes its works and sometimes it doesn't. This is common.

Is it a domain PC or just work group? I've never really had issues once I took ownership and replaced owner on sub-containers and objects (checkmark box). Ensure your user account on the local / domain is part of the administrators group as well in control panel \ user accounts.

You need to take the ownership, also need to allow your administrator account to modify the files in the folders.Arthur Xie - MSFT
