Permission from Trusted installer!
Hi, When I try to delete old files & folders on various drives in my PC I get the message You require permission from trustedinstaller to delete this folder. How do I get around this? Cheers...

There is a highly technical process involved with reconfiguring Ownership and setting Permissions. If you are inexperienced in this area you couldseriously jeaopardize the security of your system and also cause some serious problems with the Windows Event Log service. Any processes/services dependant on the Windows Event Log will be impacted as well. Are you sure you want to "get around" your not being able to delete files?

Hi, I listed detail steps to take ownership of file/folder. Please understand these steps may cause potential issue(Davids reply). 1. Please navigate to the target file/folder. 2. Right-click on the file/folder and choose Properties. 3. Click the "Security" tab and see if your current user is listed in the "Group or user names" list. If not, please click Edit-> Add button, type the name of your current user in the "Enter the object names to select " box, then click "OK" to add this group. 4. Select the user from the list and then check the "Allow" checkbox next to "Full Control". 5. Click the Advanced button and click the "Owner" tab. Then, press "Edit" button. 6. Select current user from the list and check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" checkbox. 7. Click "OK" to save changes and wait for Windows 7 to transfer the ownership of all the objects on the partition. 8. Click OK again to save changes and exit the Properties window. Hope it helps.

I have the same problem as the OP. My W7 install is on a small partition (7Gb) out of neccessity. I'm trying to delete all files which serve no purpose, and would like to delete wallpaper I'll never use. After I followed these instructions all the way through on the folder called Wallpaper, I still was unable to delete any of the unwanted images. Now instead of getting a warning about TrustedInstaller, I get one with my own user name. When I click Continue, I just get another dialog which repeats the warning and has a Try Again option. And of course Try Again does nothing.

Or maybe I should have rebooted. In the Beta sometimes I could suddenly delete or access files that had been previously off-limits. W7 still seems way more restrictive to me than Vista SP1, though that is subjective. Anyway I've simply deleted or moved the files from my main OS which is Ubuntu. Presumably I could also have done it from XP (yes I'm happily triple booting thanks to the excellent W7 boot manager). I've worked up to over half a Gig free space. Just curious to see how much room the RC really requires before I'm forced to resize the partition.

Hi David, Do you know exactly what issues may arise by changing the ownership of the C:\ from TrustedInstaller to Administrators? Are they any dependences or does TrustedInstaller just stop novice users from deleting system files? Kind Regards Nicky

Be sure after you get all the permissions changed to turn off the "Read Only" attribute. You will get the same message again if not.

Gday Please help me, it seems everyone else loves sticky notes but me... I have tried all sorts of options including yours to remove this horrible program or to even stop it from loading on startup. I run Win 7 64bit Professional on a Asus laptop, and I really don't like sticky notes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All of the forums I've found so far are of people who praise this horrible program, Why don't you just go out and buy an apple tablet and be done with it. These are the people who clog up their desktops with the gadgets app's, useless programs that serve no purpose and have plastic toys stuck to the top of their computer screens, sorry but get a life. Personally I need my computer for work not dicking about, I do not need it to tell me when to do stuff. plus the big one.... unlike some people not only can I type but I can use a pencil as well (they taught that at school in my day) and I could if I choose to do so use the sticky notes on my desk if need be. Cheers sorry for the rant but this is driving me to drink more than usual Al_cohol

I know this discussion is a little old now, but I have a related question regarding TrustedInstaller. I have/had Vista on one disk, then I put a new disk in with Windows 7... now after running Win 7 for a while I have decided I want to delete the Vista stuff (but without formatting the disk). However, it seems I need this TrustedInstalled permission. When setting the owner, it seems to be allowing only the accounts that existed under the Vista operating system, and so I can never get to delete these files, can that be correct? If so, how can I get around it? Thanks

Why don't you go back to those frothing rabid TrustedInstaller posts and fix them? Or at least express a consistent comment here. Those words I quoted were yours.

Deleting media files is not critical. But changing DLLs/exe and deleting other system files is critial. So in this case I told him to deal with the error. And please, don't always start flamewars in every topic. We are here to help!"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

because it can lead into issues, as you mentioned, I only gave the uses a hint. If they fail to find the instructions, they should not change anything on their PCs. The users should still have to do some work their own and not use copy and past instructions/scripts without knowing what they do."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
