Permanently disable Microsoft Update?
Hi there.I know that Windows Update can easily be blocked with a simple registry setting. But is there a setting/policy in Vista which will prevent the apparent automatic switching / use of Microsoft Update?I have noticed, both on our own computers and clients', that Vista from time to time switches from "Windows only" to "all Microsoft products" in Windows Update...i.e. it switches from Windows Update to Microsoft Update automatically. And with infoconnector, Navision-ODBC-connector etc., we have a tough balance on some computers, settings- and update-wise.So how does one prevent Microsoft Update, not Windows Update, in Xp and Vista? While still allowing users to act as local administrators.

Hi FrontierDK, you can use the following steps to disable Microsoft Update in Windows Vista: 1. Click Start, go to Control Panel. 2. Go to Windows Update Change Settings. 3. Uncheck the box "Use Microsoft Update". 4. Press OK. Based on my knowledge, we can choose not to install "Microsoft Update" when you visit Windows Update site on a Windows XP based computer. Hope this helps!Sean Zhu - MSFT
