Performance issues Lync 2010

Hi there,

our company with 35 employees is running lync2010 (one internal, one edge, one monitoring server behind tmg) with a media gateway. The wan-connection is currently 4mbit sdsl (broadband 4mbit both directions). Our endpoint is the tmg. Client software is lync2013.

Calls from the main office get routet through the media gateway and go out as an isdn-call and have a great audio quality. However - external road workers, that want to do lync2lync calls or lync to external-calls enter our lync topology through our 4mbit dsl and most of the time have heavy problems with jitter, low audio quality and delays - even if our wan connection is not under full use of capacity. I doesn't matter if the external user connects with vpn or not. The client tells me that the connection is bad and switches to "red".

I don't think that tmg is the problem, because when I connect a client directly to our internet facing router the traffic also flows from tmg to edge to internal but the audio quality is great. Unfortunately our internet provider doesn't support QoS.

I always thought that one lync call needs around 100 kb/s to run without jitter. My only idea is to use a dedicated 2mbit sdsl-wan connection directly connected to our edge server for the external lync-users  - what do the experts think? Is our internet connection generally to slow for working with lync?

Any ideas are highly appreciated :)

Thanks

Marcel
