Pasting Pictures in Lync 2010 IM

Hi.  We are migrating from Lotus Sametime 8 to Lync 2010 and one of the things that I cannot find out how to do is pasting a graphic (like a screenshot) during a IM session.  Is this even an option?

thanks

We also migrated from Sametime.  The crappy pasting function in Lync/OCS has always bothered me the most.  Nope - you cannot paste a picture :-(

Wait until you see the wonderful Emoticons you can use - haha.  Cannot add customs emoticons either - another big downside to OCS/Lync (especially after migrating from Sametime)

Hi HAL07,

I was surprised to see your comment.  We use the graphic pasting ability in Sametime to post screenshots of student information when a student is on the phone with a question (we are spread across 3 campuses), troubleshooting errors, passing along questions/documentation, etc.

HAL07,

With the modern advent of duplicate backup technologies, there would not be any form of clogging up SAN and backups as a single instance of an emoitcon would be the only saved copy with references. Also, what's wrong with making the workplace a little more human and a lot less formal. Email will be dead in 5-8 years, most youngsters these days do not even know what this "email" thing is or why anyone would use it (I say this as a 48 YO), IM is Instance (messaging - pardon the pun). It is an option to save the conversations into an Outlook folder which is turned on by default. I am a past user of Sametime and miss the emoticons, but saying this, if you turn off conversation saving, you can still save an IM in Lync of you choose to do so.

I hope Lync allows Emoticons to be loaded in the future and that they add multi (or continous) video presence not just the person speaking.

Lync's a great tool, but not quiet there for all concerned, Microsoft try to be all things to all people, so user pressure will see this in the future I hope. In essence, if they turn on the ability to copy/paste aminated GIF's, this would be enough, also if you could have a picture library, this would accommodate pictures (as talked about above) and Emoticons and you are now selecting from a palate.

At work, we are spread across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, collaboration is going to be a great thing for this business, throwing Emoticons and pictures into the mix will ease the acceptance I feel.

Since you two both migrated from ST to Lync, can you share what solutions you used to have both environments co-exist during migration?

About to do the same thing and are looking for good ideas as to how to connect the two environments so we can move users in groups and not "big bang"

Thanks for the input!

 YOU ARE WRONG.

You can share a whiteboard and do all the cutting, paasting you want.... i know it's not technically the same thing but it's still thru the same chat window... so not much extra to do when u want to use it...

We moved as well...

We now use the whiteboard to do that but have found that screen sharing is so fast that we don't really need to paste snipits as much

Does anyone know if this functionality (pasting screen captures in an IM) will work in Lync 2013?

We recently moved from Sametime to Lync and the ability to quickly paste an image like a screen scrape is sorely missed.  Screensharing works well when presenting or one on one but isn't always practical.  The whiteboard is also not ideal as it requires extra steps and does not keep the image inline with the chat so it is no good for audit/archiving when the image relates directly to conversation and multiple images may be used in the conversation....

With Sametime we could just paste an image from the clipboard... done and done.  When collaborating on issues we could use the built in screen capture tool (like the snipping tool) and grap a pic of whatever we wanted to share and paste it into the conversation... so much easier than opening a whiteboard waiting for it to load and devour half your screen.

Please add this feature.  Pasting images inline in the text of a lync chat.

Thanks

Lync 2013 w/ July 2013 Update now brings pasting picture into IM chat functionality to Lync:

What our company did is to deploy Lync first to all users and run both at the same time.   Then have the users start using lync for 30 days prior to shutting sametime off.   One of our developers wrote an extract/load utility to convert the groups/contacts.
