Password prompt when trying to access an XP share from Vista
Hello everyone, I am trying to access an XP machine over my home network, however I am having trouble doing so. Whenever I try to access the machine, either by typing \\[computername] into the address bar or by clicking on the computer in Network, I get a username/password prompt. Simple File Sharing is enabled on the XP machine, Password Protected Sharing is disabled on the Vista machine. The XP computer can access the Vista computer without a password. On top of all this, I can't even get it to work if I type the right username and password. Instead I get a Logon Unsuccessful balloon, and I see that Vista is adding my computer's name as the domain. The screenshot below shows what I mean. Even if I force it to use JUNE2008 as the domain by typing "JUNE2008\Maite" it STILL refuses to logon. What the h*ll is happening?? :( Help greatly appreciated. EDIT: Forgot to mention. My computer is running Vista x64 Home Premium. The target machine is XP Pro x86.
