Password Protected Sharing in Windows 7
Hello all. I have been pulling my hair out to try and solve this problem. I have two Windows 7 computers, and I wish to set up file sharing between them. I don't want to go with a Homegroup, because I have WinXP computers on this network. I want the sharing to be setup so that when I connect to the computer ie. \\computername it pops up with a login box to login with that computers account. I have gotten this to work so far going from a Professional computer to a Home Premium setup, but not the other way. If I try to connect from Pro to HP, it says: \\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Login failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. Any suggestions? If this doesn't make any sense, feel free to ask me to reword it. Thanks,

Ok, after some playing around, I discovered that it had something to do with the fact the Guest account is enabled on the professional computer. If possible I would like to keep the Guest account enabled. Is there another setting I could change, to counter the Guest account being enabled. BrennanU

Hi, Since the Professional machine can access the Home machine, we can conclude that the settings on Home machine are correct. This issue can occur by incorrect settings on Professional machine. I suggest you try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on Professional machine. 2. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 3. Uncheck the Guest account or account that being denied in group policy 4. Set restrictanonymous value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa to 0 If there is any error message, please upload it Thanks, Novak
