Partitioning 7 Ultimate and installing Windows Server 2008
I noticed some discussions about partitioning Windows 7 Ultimate but I was unable to find a thread about partitioning Ultimate and installing Server 2008. Has anyone done this? Is it doable without much trouble or am I potentially stirring up a hornets nest?

Are you just wanting to learn Windows Server 2008? If so, shrink the volume of your hard drive (leave plenty of room for 2008 to install on). How much ram does your machine have? By giving 2008 its own partition you can then boot into 2008 Server or 7 Ultimate. But it would be just easier to install 2008 Server first, then run Windows 7 ultimate in a virtual instance in Hyper-V, that way you can still use Ultimate and at the same time run 2008 Server. If you think about it a little, you could do a backup of your data, wipe your drive, install Server 2008, get everything working, then get Hyper-V configured and running (fairly easy), build your VHD, start it and install Ultimate and you've got the best of both worlds,MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi,If you only have 1 harddisk, Defrag first, then backup any important data just in case. Please go to, Start - my computer right click - manage - disk management - right click harddisk partition - Shrink volume - add the shrink size. Restart computer with W2008 DVD disc and choose the 2nd partition to install to and when finished you should have a dual boot menu where you can choose between Win 7 or Win 2008 Slan go foill, Paul
