Partition not visible in Windows 7, and disk manager will not assign drive letter to it
I have the same problem as several people have listed with a partition not being visible in windows 7. The partition used to be visible. I had a disk crash on one of my other disks (the back up disk paradoxically) and while putting in a new disk and managing to recover some of the files from my old back up disk something happened while I was resizing a partition on the new disk using an old XP utility The partition I can no longer see is a data only partition (my photo archive) which is on the same physical disk as my XP and my Windows 7 partitions The computer dual boots using the standard windows 7 dual boot feature and the missing partition is perfectly visible in XP, and thus I have managed to recover the data from the missing partition - but I would still like access to the space on my disk!! When I try and solve the problem by assigning a drive letter to the miscreant partition in Windows 7 disk management I get an error message saying "The operation failed to complete beacuse the disk management console view is not up to date........" No amount of refreshing / restarting resolves this problem Windows 7 version is Home Premium 64 Bit Fortunately I have recovered the data from the drive as described above, so this is no longer about data loss, but wanting to get my W7 back to working fully effectively David

Delete then recreate the partition out of XP's Disk Managment, since Win7 won't do anything with it.- JoelbX

Delete then recreate the partition out of XP's Disk Managment, since Win7 won't do anything with it. - JoelbX Yes. That is because the disk partition tool you use is not compatible with Windows 7 so Windows 7 may not be able to read the partition table correctly. To resolve this issue, you may need to reformat the problematic partition. Arthur Xie - MSFT
