Parameter incorrect error after browsing network drives.
I have a problem where windows 7 will start to produce the error "parameter is incorrect" when trying to launch any executable. And the only way that I have seen to fix it is to reboot the windows 7 machine. The problem starts after browsing network file shares. It does not happen all the time and not always in the folder on the network. It has happened when browsing both a CIFS share host by a Netapp Filer and a regular windows 2003 R2 files share. Any information whould be appriciated because this is keeping my company from upgrading all clients to windows 7.

OK, I have an update to the problem I am having. When browsing to a network share on windows 2003 R2 x64 file server with a compress file is what causes the problem. After testing i have found that everything works fine until I hit a folder that has either a compressed file or folder in it. Once I open a folder that has a compressed file and/or folder in it, immediately after I start recieving "the parameter is incorrect" error on any new application or file I try to open. Thus, I have to reboot to temporarily fix the issue. Any information on a setting change or hotfix for either the server or for windows 7 would be appreciated.

Hi, Please check the following: 1. Ensure the Windows 7 computer is virus free. 2. Does this issue occur just when you entered a specific folder that has a compressed file or folder? 3. Check the Event Log and see if there are any related errors. 4. If you have another Windows 7 computer, please also check if this issue will also occurs. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

We are now seeing this problem with "the parameter is incorrect" when trying to execute files on the network from remote locations. We can open the exact same files/folders from our main office. This is from multiple Windows 7 computers, however it does not matter if the folders are compressed or contain compressed files in our case. I saw there was a hotfix for the "parameter is incorrect" issue but that was for beta. Any advice would be appreciated. This is stopping our deployment of Windows 7 to the rest of the company.

Nitro, what antivirus program do you use in your environment?

I have found the solution to the problem. I had to add the unc paths to our network shares to the resident shield exlude list. One I did that everything seemd to start working fine. Had nothing to do with compressed files. I however, did not add the unc path to our netapp filer to the exlude list because it is not a server that has the anitvirus installed. Supposedly it is cause by the resident shield from the anitvirus program installed on both the file servers and the clients that where conflicting with each other.

Hi Nitro, We are having the exact same problem, we even got it after uninstalling AV from both client and server. It only seems to occur when connection to locations across the WAN. Did you get anywhere with working this out? Thanks, Dave
