Painfully Slow Internet Connection
Hi there all,Am suffering from very slow wireless internet connection. Have 3 machines on home network all using same router: oneVista32 laptop, one Vista64 desktop one Win7 desktop. Both desktops fitted with same ASUS wifi PCI card (with broadcom chip I think). Win7 machine has been very reluctant to connect at all: lots of "can't connect to wireless router" errors and constantly rejecting the correct security code.It does now connect most of the time, but is operating at a very low speed. Example: Vista32 laptopdownloaded a 500KB file in just 3 secinds. Win7 desktop was unable to complete the same downoad dropping tospeeds of less than 0.5mbs. Websites take forever to load and display and sometimes won't load at all. There is something seriously wrong here. Swapped wifi cards between the two desktops - Vista64 desltop works fine with either wifi card, posting speeds of around 350mbs, which is about normal for my connection.Tried a fresh, clean install of Win7, it took several attempts to finally connect to internet, but speeds are still painfully slow. This is the first major hick-up I've had with Win7, but don't know what to do now. Device Manager reports that wifi card is working properly. It's using the Microsoft driver at present. Also have ASUSdriver on disc, have usedit with the card, but whichever driver I use, makes no difference, connection speeds still terrible. Any suggestions? Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance.

Hi Adam,Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. This was one of the first things Itried. Sadly the latest driver from ASUS for this card is dated 2006 - it's exactly the same as the one supplied on the disc bundled with the card when bought,. ASUS listWin7 specific driversontheir website, so it was a Vista64 driver or nothing. Of the two drivers I have, the best (reletively speaking) is the microsoft one that comes with Win7.Since my last post, I've removed the wifi card and connected my Win7 machine to the router via the RJ-45 LAN port, using a network cable - immediately back to full speed and gone are all the "can't connect to the wireless router" problems that have plagued me thus far. The LAN cable is just an experiment and not a permanent solution. But itclearly shows that Win7has a real problem with the ASUS card and/or the driver (or, that card just doesn't like my machine?). Anway at least I know thewifi card isn't faulty and works fine in my other (Vista64) PC.Could anyone recommend another card that's proven towork properly with my Win7 machine. The spec is:Core i7 920 OC'd to 3.8mhz.ASUS P6T Deluxe mobo (latest bios)6GB Cosair Dominator DDR3Sapphire ATi HD 4870x2.BeQuiet DarkPower Pro 650w PSU.Cheers,iKnow.
