PPTP Issues
One of our employees upgraded his laptop to Vista and now cannot connect to our VPN (PPTP) server. We are using Microsoft RRAS, PPTP and RADIUS. I have looked at the laptop, brought itin the office to connect directly via our LAN, but it does not connect. It times out. The VPN client settings are the same as our XP machines that work fine. The firewall is off. I am new to Vista, in fact this is my first look, so I am a bit lost. Are there any known issues or changes that might be causing this? Thanks, Bart

Hi Bart, Here are some possibilities 1. Vista does not support MSCHAPv1 protocol for authentication. You need to use MSCHAPv2, CHAP or PAP (recommended in that order) instead. Note that for dial-up and PPPoE connections both CHAP and MSCHAPv2 are enabled by default. On VPN connections MSCHAPv2 is enabled by default. Also, these authentication protocols need to be configured on the server 2. Vista uses only strong encryption. You need to enable 128-bit encryption on the server. Here is a KB article on this that might be of help: KB #929857 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929857/en-us Let us know if this doesnt help
