PPPoE client only connects after login
Hi folks, I know this is the way it's supposed to be for a PPPoE client under any recent Windows version, but it's kinda primitive. OSs like Linux and Mac OS X have PPPoE clients that connect as soon as the network boot process finishes - you don't have to log in and install some application that needs network connection (like GMail notifier) just to force the OS to begin authenticating... Being W7 the best Windows version of all times, it's really disappointing the lack of a feature like that, which is not that hard to implement. I'm not talking about any freeware or shareware out there that do this kind of stuff, but of a resource that comes with the OS itself. Many people out there have PPPoE or even PPPoA xDSLs, and to have a feature like that would improve usability, since there is no need to manually start the authentication process. Think about people that have no knowledge about computers (your brother, sister, parents, etc), which can use your computer, and call you everytime saying "I've logged in, and tried to browse some page, but it's not working ! What do I have to do ?" Regards, Roberto

Roberto, I couldnt have said that better myself. I use DSL and with 2000/XP and Vista hooking it up took no time at all. The biggest problems I had always existed between the router and the modem. When other users get this OS, and it is indeed nice, they will find themselves perplexed by the error. They most likely will not have a clue what PPPoE is and if by chance they do they will ask the obvious, why is it harder in W7 than the rest of them? Personally I still havent figured out why mine doesnt work but I at least know enough to find ways around it until I find the ultimate solution. Then again, there is a reason for realeasing this code early isnt there?

In windows 7 clicking on the network icon in the taskbar is nice, but a couple of additions could make it much better. Auto connect as stated above just add a tick box to the pppoe connections as the wireless connections have, use this connection when connected to the current network and a tick box next to it. Also not having the annoying pppoe connection window popping up, i find it annoying to have to click connect on the pppoe connection in the taskbar menu and then click connect again on the window that pops up, clicking connect should beseamless atconnecting you to the pppoe connection. Other than that networking in 7 is quite pleasant!
