PC thinks it a router, why?
I am using Windows 7RCWhen I tried to ping a pc that is on the same switch I am getting an odd reply that seems to think that my PC is a router. Below is my ipconfig and then the reply when I use ping Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ad.holt.wokingham.sch.uk Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::c174:4dcc:1687:f60d%11 IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.20.154.164 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.20.155.254 Tunnel adapter isatap.ad.holt.wokingham.sch.uk: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ad.holt.wokingham.sch.uk C:\Users\jes>ping no-03n Pinging no-03n.ad.holt.wokingham.sch.uk [10.20.155.5] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 10.20.154.164: Destination host unreachable.Request timed out.Request timed out.Reply from 10.20.154.164: Destination host unreachable. Ping statistics for 10.20.155.5: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 2, Lost = 2 (50% loss),Should I be getting the reply from 10.20... or should I be getting just the Request timed out answer? Can anyone tell mewhat is going on?

Steve -I'm thinking a lot of this depends on exactly which machine is "no-o3n"...If you're pinging yourself, that doesn't exactly make a lot of sense. On my system, when I ping myself using my machine name, the PING command automatically selects the IPv6 routing ID instead of the traditional IPv4 string.

I will confirm the exact same observation with VistaSP2. I cannot usually ping anything on the local net except the AP/gateway itself. When it fails, NetMon3 does not show any echo packet having been sent either. The error reported by ping then indicates my own IP as the source of the reply. Very odd.

It should work properly. Otherwise the computer will not be able to connect to Internet. The server you need to ping is ad.holt.wokingham.sch.uk(10.20.155.254). Please let us know more information about the server no-03n.ad.holt.wokingham.sch.uk.Arthur Xie - MSFT
