PC powers on occasionally by itself hours after a successful shutdown
PC powers on occasionally by itself hours after a successful shutdown. Nothing displays on monitor, the fans are on and the hard drive seems to be spinning at a very high rate. The computer is non-functional at this point. The only way to turn off at that point is to turn off power at the surge protector. After turning the surge protector back on, initiating the normal start-up procedure with the button on front of the Dell PC, everything seems to proceed well. We have had this Dell Dimension 9150 PC since 2006 and the intermittent problem has started in only the last few weeks. Running Windows XP home edition, service pack 3. No new software has been loaded, except normal Windows and McAfee updates. New Linksys wireless/Ethernet router installed a few months earlier. PC cabled to router. Internet connection via DSL. Any thoughts as to what this issue might be??1 person needs an answerI do too
