PC powering itself off randomly
Hi, I am currently running Windows 7 64 Ultimate, and my PC powers itself off randomly before powering on recently. My current setup: Quad Core Q9450 8 GB RAM DDR2 (2 sticks Corsair, 2 sticks Kingston) MSI Hawk GeForce GTX460 graphics card Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Motherboard CoolerMaster 750watt PSU The graphics card is brand new, and I've updated the latest drivers for everything. I've also flashed the BIOS. Tested with just 2 sticks of RAM(same brand). Here is the System Log entry: < Event xmlns =" http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event " > - < System > < Provider Name =" Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power " Guid =" {331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4} " /> < EventID > 41 </ EventID > < Version > 2 </ Version > < Level > 1 </ Level > < Task > 63 </ Task > < Opcode > 0 </ Opcode > < Keywords > 0x8000000000000002 </ Keywords > < TimeCreated SystemTime =" 2011-01-28T17:26:57.470015700Z " /> < EventRecordID > 60123 </ EventRecordID > < Correlation /> < Execution ProcessID =" 4 " ThreadID =" 8 " /> < Channel > System </ Channel > < Computer > KRUSADER </ Computer > < Security UserID =" S-1-5-18 " /> </ System > - < EventData > < Data Name =" BugcheckCode " > 0 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter1 " > 0x0 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter2 " > 0x0 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter3 " > 0x0 </ Data > < Data Name =" BugcheckParameter4 " > 0x0 </ Data > < Data Name =" SleepInProgress " > false </ Data > < Data Name =" PowerButtonTimestamp " > 0 </ Data > </ EventData > </ Event > Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Random Power off / shutdown is usally caused by one of three things: Bad memory ( Start orb, type windows memory diagnostic in the search box) Overheating (bad cpu or video card fan, dust buildup on the heat sinks) Faulty or weak power supply Jerry

I've uploaded the minidump file to my Skydrive too, if someone would be so kind to have a look. I'll try changing the PSU for starters. Thank you.

Bug Check 0x3B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff558949%28VS.85%29.aspx Cause This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code. The memory could not be %s. // #define STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION ((NTSTATUS)0xC0000005 L) This maybe memory related like Jerry suggested. Please download memtest86+ [1], burn a new bootable CD (use a CD-RW if possible) from the ISO (download and use ImgBurn [2][3] to do this or make double click on the ISO in Windows 7), reboot your PC and scan your RAM 4-5hours for errors. If it detects errors, replace the faulty RAM. If the memtest tells no error, please download CPU-Z [4], look in the memory and SPD tab and verify that the current RAM Speed and the Timings match to the values that you see in the SPD tab. If your RAM run at CR (Command Rate) 1T, change the value into 2T in the BIOS. Well, after changing the PSU, I'm pleased to report that my PC has not rebooted itself randomly for the past 48 hours. Going to monitor it for a while more, but it looks like the problem has been resolved. Thanks Andre and Jerry!
